1. The "Wait" Game (Building Patience)

In the classroom, children have to wait for everything. At home, we often jump to help the second they ask. The Fix: Next time you’re making dinner and they ask for a snack, don't say "no," say "not yet." Give them a specific physical task to do while they wait (like hopping on one foot or counting the magnets on the fridge). You are literally building the "patience muscle" in their brain.

2. The "One-Step" Rule (Following Directions)

Teachers give instructions to 20+ kids at once. If a child is used to 5 reminders at home, they will be lost at school. The Fix: Practice giving one clear instruction, once. If they don't follow through, don't repeat yourself. Walk over, get on their eye level, and wait for them to process it. This teaches them that your words have weight the first time you speak.

3. The "Natural Consequence" Shift (Resilience)

When we "snowplow" every obstacle out of our child's way, they lose the ability to handle small frustrations. The Fix: If they forget their toy, don't run back into the house to get it. Let them feel the "small" disappointment now. It’s a safe way to practice the "bounce back" skills they need for when things go wrong in the classroom.
